Lyle Joseph Fischer

Lyle J. Fischer, age 88, resident of rural Fort Scott, finished his work and entered his eternal rest Sunday, April 29, 2012. He was a Marine and was true to their motto, Semper Fi, Always Faithful. Although he was trained to fight, this Marine’s occupation of Japan was to bring about peace. He owned and operated a dairy farm where he resided for nearly 60 years.
He was born November 16, 1923 in Roanoke, Illinois, the son of Elias August Fischer and Lydia Schlupp Fischer. He was a graduate of Roanoke High School. Lyle married Lillian Massner on June 27, 1954, in Fort Scott. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church for 66 years. He loved people, genealogy and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Lillian, of the home; three sons, Edwin Fischer and wife Carol, Cabins, West Virginia, Stephen Fischer and wife Janet, Morton, Illinois, and Jeffrey Fischer and wife Gloria, Fort Scott; and one daughter, Lynne Streitmatter and husband Jeff, Sarasota, Florida. Also surviving are four brothers, Robert Fischer and James Fischer, both of Morton, Illinois, LeRoy Fischer and Elias Fischer, both of Washington, Illinois; two sisters, Wilma Teubel, Bloomfield, Iowa and Arlette Fehr, Roanoke, Illinois; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred Fischer and one sister Lorenne Wiegand.
Elder Bro. John Lehman assisted by Bros. Fred Funk and Klint Beyer will conduct funeral services at 9:30 A.M. Friday in the Apostolic Christian Church. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post 1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday in the Cheney Witt Chapel and 8:30 A.M. until service time Friday morning at the church.
