George Martin Harned

George Martin Harned, age 78, resident of Uniontown, Kansas, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 5, 1933, in Fulton, Kansas, the son of Luther Martin Harned and Julia Alma Cadwell Harned. He served our country in the United States Navy. He worked for most of his life in his lawn care business, which included maintaining several cemeteries. He also drove the school bus for Uniontown for many years. George enjoyed traveling the country, always helping any one in need of assistance along the way. He liked to pitch horse shoes in the park and visit with friends. George was a man of strong moral character and devotion.
He was an elder in the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Fort Scott, filling in as pastor over the years to area churches when needed.
Survivors include two daughters, Regina Cruse and husband Rick, and Rhonda Lee, all of Fort Scott, Kansas; one brother, Edwin Harned and wife Willy, Aurora, Colorado; and three sisters, Julia Turbyville, Crystal Beach, Texas, Darlene Robinson and husband Morris, Redfield, Kansas, and Leona Harned, Fort Scott. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brent and Kenda Lee, and Keifer, Skyler, Raifen, and Jentry Cruse; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Harned, as well as his parents.
Pastor Travis Forde will conduct funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Seventh Day Adventist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.
