Maxine Parsons Denman, age 75, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at her home following a cancer illness. She was born January 15, 1935, in Hope, Michigan, the daughter of Paul Parsons and Bessie Grice Parsons. Maxine first married Mack Nelson McAllister on March 6, 1954. They were divorced. She later married William Denman on October 11, 1975. Maxine first worked for a small independent insurance agency in Michigan. She later retired from the Michigan Department of Insurance where she was in charge of the state’s No-Fault Insurance Program. Maxine then moved to the Daytona Beach, Florida area and began working as the Deputy District Supervisor for Volusia County. At this time she also obtained her real estate license. She was a member of the Church of God in Michigan and was active in a variety of civic organizations. She enjoyed reading and in her earlier years was an accomplished musician who enjoyed playing the piano and accordion and singing.

Survivors include her husband, Bill, of Fort Scott; three sons, Randy McAllister and wife Arita, Cameron McAllister and wife, Gina all Fort Scott, Kansas and Todd McAllister and wife, Rhonda, Pioneer, Ohio; two daughters, Lori K. Griffin and husband, Daniel, Vallejo, California and Jody McAllister, Sanford, Florida. Also surviving are a half-brother, Luke Bitler and two step-brothers, Vernon Lee Bitler and Allen Bitler, all of Midland, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

There was cremation. Pastor Tim Woodring will conduct a graveside service at 2:30 P.M. Monday, May 24, 2010, at the U. S. National Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 2:15 P.M. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
