Harvey Dean Crandall, 88, died April 8, 2010, at Eaglecrest Retirement Community, Salina, KS. Harvey was born October 12, 1921, the son of Robert and Della (Croxton) Crandall, in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Wichita East High and later attended Kansas State University and Fort Scott Community College. He worked for the Board of Education in Wichita prior to enlisting in the Army in 1942. Harvey served with the 603 Armored Maintenance Battalion in North Africa and Italy. He was discharged in 1945. He married Harriette Shuart in 1946 in Wichita. They moved to Fort Scott in 1948 where he farmed for 20 years and operated a Grade A Dairy. He was employed by the Western Insurance Company as a field auditor and inspector for 22 years. Harvey was a member of the Community Christian Church, a project leader for the Pawnee 4-H, served on the Bourbon County extension council, was a lay member of KS 6th district judicial nominating commission of KS Supreme Court, Asst. Fire Chief of Hiattville Rural Fire Dept.,Treasurer of Marmaton Valley Land Owners Association, member of Post #1165 V.F.W., Grand Cross of Color, Rainbow Dad 1967, Hiattville AF & AM Lodge #216 and OES Chapter #369, and Fort Scott Scottish Rite.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Harriette in 1981. He married Jessie Mae Warren in 1995. They later divorced in 2009. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen. He is survived by his daughter, Janet (John) Mai, of Salina; and grandchildren, Terri Woodbury of Auburn, Michael (Beth) Woodbury of Topeka; Joel (Meghan) Mai of McPherson; Janelle (David) Payne of Brighton, CO; and Jeremy Mai of Portland, OR and 9 great-grandchildren.
Pastor Tim Woodring will conduct funeral services for Harvey Crandall at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April, 12, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott. Masonic Graveside services will be conducted at the cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until service time.
