William Dean Goodbody, age 49, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room. He was born August 27, 1959, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of William Clint Goodbody and Sharon Lee Williams Goodbody. He was a graduate of the Uniontown High School. While in high school, Dean excelled in sports. He was an outstanding basketball player who often scored over 50 points per game. He was also an excellent baseball pitcher. Dean also enjoyed fishing. In his earlier years, he attended the Mapleton Christian Church. Dean married Gretchen Schafer; they were later divorced.
Survivors include a son, Kristopher Goodbody and two daughters, Kasey and Karlee Goodbody all of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Crystal Clayton, Mapleton, Kansas; three brothers, Wesley Goodbody, Mapleton, Kansas, Richard Goodbody and Ryan Goodbody, both of Fort Scott. Also surviving are his mother, Sharon Kinnaman, Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and an aunt and uncle
Wanda and Joel Kelly, Mapleton, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Goodbody, a nephew, Eric Clayton, his grandparents, Bud and Irene Goodbody.
Pastor Paul Simonds will conduct funeral services at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Following funeral services, there will be cremation with private burial in the Mapleton Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to a Dean Goodbody Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701.
