Kirby W. Murrow

Kirby Wayne Murrow, age 55, a resident of Mapleton, Kansas, died Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born July 13, 1953, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Virgil Keith Murrow and Wilma Carol Gillmore Murrow. Kirby was a graduate of the Blue Mound High School. He later served with the U. S. Navy during Vietnam. He married Gwendolyn Cowel on August 7, 1976, at Mapleton, Kansas. He had worked as a crane operator and carpenter for Beachner Construction until ill health forced his retirement. Kirby enjoyed gardening, fishing, arrowhead hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Mapleton Community of Christ Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen, of the home; a daughter, Cindy Lawrence and husband, Keith, Fort Scott; his mother, Carol Murrow, Mapleton, Kansas; three brothers, Michael Murrow and wife, Loretta, Mapleton, Kansas, Dale Murrow and wife, Donna, Dennison, Kansas, and Kelly Murrow, Mapleton, Kansas; two sisters, Debra Wolken and husband, Bub, Greenbush, Kansas, and Brenda Meyer and husband, Sammy, Mound City, Kansas. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Dakota, Tydas, Kera and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, Quinten Murrow.
Elder David Nickelson will conduct funeral services at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Liver Foundation and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701.
